That summer
That wonderful, dreamy summer,
That summer when
All my dreams came to life
He was there
Face to face with me
That hellogoodbye song ringing in my head:
"Our cheeks can brush, our lips can touch, here"
That here was that cabin
Alive with the melodies of rock songs,
Windows covered, with dust, but we fret not,
the outer conditions could not pierce our force-field of emotions
We only saw each other
Eyes locked, we saw nothing else
Even as we walked in the sand,
Hand in hand
The water caressed my feet,
As we sat in the sand,
My back against his chest
His chin resting on my head
Day after day
The same, spending the days
Of our perfect summer
In each others’ arms
Each night
Falling asleep in his lap
And waking in the same place
Warm and feeling loved, safe, wanted, needed.
A fog comes over these
Perfect days,
A daze
It seems
Confusion sets in
But his eyes are steadfast
After all, they are my heart’s caste
Under their gaze I collapse like tin.
The mist won’t rise
Why must it ruin
Another day in paradise?
A noise comes then
A shrieking beeping noise
And to my dismay
I awake from my hopeful slumber
As I come to that realization
I weep for that summer
That cabin by the lake
Even if it is just in my dreams.
