Since the July, 2006 release of their platinum debut album Don't
You Fake It, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus has been an active force in
contributing their voice, commitment and talents towards raising
funds and awareness for a wide array of charitable organizations
and social causes.
Whether it's participating in a speech on Capitol Hill on behalf of teen suicide prevention and mental health parity; their far-reaching work alongside the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence; their efforts to help in situations of national disaster and much, much more, RJA feels an obligation to give back and use their voice to encourage others to do as well.
Rising from this commitment, in April, 2008 the band announced the formation of The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus Guardian Angel Foundation (or RJAGAF), a national, non-profit that unites RJA's social and charitable interests with their belief of empowering others to raise funds and awareness for just organizations and causes, named after “Your Guardian Angel,” the band's third single off of Don't You Fake It.
The mission of The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus Guardian Angel Foundation is to:
Says Ronnie Winter, (lead vocals and acoustic guitar for The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus), “I remember in high school there would be teachers and inspirational speakers saying that we could change the world if we just tried. The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus Guardian Angel Foundation is our avenue to at least attempt to make this world a better place. Thank you all for the love and support and lets continue together to show that we care - not just in words but in actions!”
Some examples of past work:
The band continues to team up with the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, using their record-setting hit single, “Face Down” as a launching pad to raise money and awareness for the cause, including a national fundraising and awareness campaign and a limited edition line of merchandise.
In 2007, the band participated in a speech on Capitol Hill on teen suicide prevention and mental health parity, then headlined and helped raise over $150,000 for the Take Action Tour, which works with non-profit organizations to educate people about the positive difference that can be made by each of us in our community through activism and charitable work.
In May 2007, RJA presented an outdoor benefit concert in Enterprise, Alabama after hearing about a devastating tornado that caused nine deaths, including 8 at Enterprise High School, where the Prom theme was “Your Guardian Angel.” 100% of ticket and merchandise sales went towards school relief efforts.
Also in 2007, RJA participated in a national youth volunteer movement sponsored by Boost Mobile and included a charity performance at New York's Radio City Music Hall. The band was recently nominated for MTVU's “The Good Woodie;” an award for artists whose commitment to a social cause has affected the greatest change this year.
